Stoke Travel

Stoke Travel was formed when someone gave Douglas, the wave riding dugong, a six-pack of beer and an extra large pack of party poppers. Douglas, being the wily old dugong he is, made his way to the South West of France, nibbling on seagrass and rationing his beers as he went. When he arrived in Anglet he shared the stoke of surfing, and his beers, and his party poppers with backpackers and students and legends of all ages who adored his simple mantra of surfing, travelling and partying.

That mantra was taught to Doug by Marcus the Manta Ray, but that's a different story altogether.

Once Douglas and his newly stoked disciples had surfed their fill they decided to load the old dugong into a saltwater water tank, and on the back of a flat-bed truck, and drive him out to Pamplona for the Running of the Bulls. Ohhhh the FUN Doug had out there, the crew putting his tank at a decent vantage point and regularly topping up his brine with sangria. Doug decided to throw the biggest parties outside of the festival, and to dress them up under the auspices of them being accommodation – for Doug figured that the best friends he'd make overseas would be the ones who put the good times above the creature comforts...

Doug took his show on the road. He took his own special brand of partying all around Europe, then Morocco, then Brazil. He had more fun than all of the other marine mammals, but not as much as Marcus the Manta (different story). He found more value in being in the places he visited, than photographing them. He didn't believe in "doing" cities and destinations, but in "being" in them, "visiting" them, "living" in them, "experiencing" them.

He believed in the party. He believed in being a little bit naughty sometimes. He believed in having as much FUN as possible because, heck, he wasn't going to be around for ever.

At the end of the day that's all Doug wanted to do. He wanted to have as much FUN as possible, and the best way to have this fun was through travelling, through surfing and, always, whilst partying.
