According the legend, Los Monteros were knights who protected and accompanied the king during his hunting expeditions in the mountains with the responsibility to protect him not only from the wild life but also the villains. Identifiable by the insignia made of natural cork sewn on the chest of their uniform, they stood for loyalty and bravery.
