La Guita is the leading Sherry/Manzanilla Brand in Spain.

La Guita historical Bodega was built in 1526 and it was originally a Hospital until 1867.

Originally, in 1526, the building where the Bodega (cellars) is located, 1 Misericordia street, was the Hospital de la Santa Misericordia, where ships coming from the American colonies to Seville would leave injured or ill members of their crews to stay and recover. In 1589 the hospital changed its name to San Juan de Dios Hospital when it was transferred to the religious order of the same name. the monk Juan Pecador, was appointed by the Bishop of Seville to be the person in charge of the hospital. In 1996 this monk was canonized by the Pope Juan Pablo II with the name Saint Juan Grande.

Between 1867 and 1868 the building was rebuilt and converted into a Bodega, as it can be seen in the grille covering the great circular windows of the main nave, and has maintained the use up to these days. The primitive name “Bodega San Juan de Dios” can be still read on the ceramic tiles in the maim facade.

The Bodega maintains the facade of the San Juan de Dios Church, dating from early XVII century. The ornamental elements of this classic baroque style facade are concentrated on the mouldings and pilasters that flank the front door and the entablature on top.

This wonderful building is located within an area of monumental architecture, typical of the ancient historic centre of Sanlucar and close to the neighboring Basilica de la Caridad. In fact, the Bodega design strongly contributes to the character of the Barrio Alto (High District) area.

Manzanilla “La Guita”, is aged inside the walls of this historical building. The west humid winds from the sea, key factor in the production of this unique wine, blow directly in the Bodega thanks to its location in the highest area of the town.

“La Guita” is the first Manzanilla wine to include the bottling date on the back label. This important information allows us to guarantee the consumers the wine’s optimum condition for consumption.

The string (guita in Spanish) on La Guita bottle represents the founders famous words when visited by his clients: “Show me the money”, “guita” is also colloquial for money in Spanish.

It is the only Manzanilla produced exclusively from Pago (Plot) Miraflores (Vineyards located around the town of Sanlucar), where the Albariza soil provides the mineral character to La Guita.
