Bienvenidos a EG arquitectura urbana.

Toyo Ito dijo en una ocasión que “la arquitectura no es mucho más que un árbol”, seguramente recordando a nuestro Antonio Gaudí cuando afirmó que “el árbol que está ahí es mi maestro”.

Mies van der Rohe estaba convencido de que “menos es más”, y Alberto Campo Baeza añade que “luz es más”.

Manuel de Solà-Morales se preguntaba “¿debería entenderse el urbanismo como una forma de ‘educar’ al pueblo?”. Ricardo Legorreta así podría haberlo pensado al creer que “la ciudad es como el ser humano”.

Quizá Carlos Raúl Villanueva reúna todos estos pensamientos al creer que “la arquitectura es acto social por excelencia, arte utilitario, como proyección de la vida misma, ligada a problemas económicos y sociales y no únicamente a normas estéticas (…)”. Y al pensar que “el arquitecto debe ser un humanista”.

Aforismos como los anteriores son los que nos mueven a desempeñar el trabajo de la arquitectura, el urbanismo y el diseño con curiosidad, esa curiosidad que nos lleve a entender cuál debe ser nuestra aportación a la sociedad.

Toyo Ito once said that “architecture is not much more than a tree”, surely remembering our own Antonio Gaudí, who stated that “that tree there is my mentor”.

Mies van der Rohe was convinced that “less is more”, and Alberto Campo Baeza added that “light is more”.

Manuel de Solà-Morales wondered “should urbanism be understood as a way of ‘educating’ people?”. Ricardo Legorreta would have agreed, since he believed that “a city is like a human being”.

Perhaps Carlos Raúl Villanueva summarises all these thoughts; he believed that “architecture is a social act par excellence, a utilitarian art, like a projection of life itself, connected to social and economic issues, and not merely to aesthetic norms (…)”. And thought that “the architect must be a humanist”.

Aphorisms such as these move us to perform the work of architecture, urban planning and design with curiosity, that curiosity which helps us understand what our contribution to society must be.
