Cortijo Carmela

My husband Gennaro and I had a dream. We wanted move to southern Spain and start our own self catered luxury apartments. We both loved the warm weather and after having lived in various countries during our life together, we decided this was the place to hopefully ease into a gentler pace of life.

We spent 6 years researching and searching for the perfect location and property and in 2013 eventually found our paradise, here in the stunning Axarquia region, east of Malaga and close to Lake Viñuela.
However, at the end of 2013, our world was rocked when Gennaro was diagnosed with cancer and we began the biggest fight of our lives. This did not stop us from realising our dream. It was what we had worked our whole lives for and planned for many years.

Parallel to the many hospital visits and treatments that Gennaro had to endure, the transformation of Cortijo Carmela began. Having resourced the expertise and knowledge of a local architect and construction company and combined with Gennaro's background in engineering, the new design was completed late 2014. By early 2015 the construction phase began.
18 months later in late 2016, our dream came to fruition. The result has to be seen to be believed! It has been the enduring dedication of our great construction team, whom we now call friends, that has enabled us to open our doors to you. Today, we are proud to welcome you to a place that is serene and tranquil, blessed with spectacular vistas, where you can relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.

Sadly, having tried every option available to us against Gennaro's illness, we lost the battle and Gennaro passed away early 2016, just before the completion of our dream. His ideas, innovations and engineering expertise can be seen throughout the property and I know he will be always be around, guiding me in my new life.
