Denise and David Stirrup have been in the "rag trade” for 30+ years.
In in UK they owned a clothes manufacturing company called “Howie`s Fashions” and managed 50 people sewing, cutting and pressing fabrics into clothes for brands like Fred Perry, Simon Jersey, Empire Stores and other catalogue companies.
When moving the family to Spain in 1998 they tried to continue the business of tailor made garments by themselves in the popular calle Gerona and later moved to Benidorm Indoor Market to try and help increase production. With little interest from residents and tourists they soon realised that they needed to change their profession to drapery as more people were asking for curtains to be altered and also people were bringing material from the outdoor market to have it made to measure.
Realising that there would be more demand for Spanish materials as people would want to take home something different, they travelled inland Spain and found wonderful Spanish Laces and great Polly-Cotton Heavyweight fabrics. Now they also purchase materials from Germany and Voiles with high quality embroidery from Turkey to offer a wide variety and keep ahead of competition in bespoke window treatments!
...Just Denise Curtains shop is now managed by Howard the son and has expanded by opening a new showroom on the main aisle of the Indoor Market to help catch more passing trade and also exhibit more fabrics than ever before.
